Interests and Background as a Psychologist in the Iowa City Area

My theoretical orientation is Existential-Humanistic infused with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  This means that I acknowledge the inherent struggles, difficulties, and hardships of life.  However, my approach also emphasizes the incredible ability of human beings to endure these issues to lead purposeful and intentional lives.

Basically, life is hard, but humans are amazing.

With this perspective, I enjoy working with a variety of clients and concerns.  Specifically, some of these issues include grief and loss, career and employment concerns, identity-related issues, health concerns, relationship issues.  Also, I enjoy working with patients on their transitions to college or new environments.  Furthermore, I help people with their adjustments to any other life events and decisions.

Common reasons that people see me are Depression, Anxiety, relationship concerns, work concerns, trauma, and difficulties adjusting to life.  Additionally, I see people who need support through various issues regarding identity, self-awareness, and self-esteem.

Work with media

I contribute regularly to the Hope Springs Well Being blog.  Some of my posts have included gratitudeemotional coping, and healthy living.  Dr. Burke’s practice is also advertised on the Psychology Today Profile page.

We are thrilled to have Dr. Mollie Burke on staff.  Also, she is a true asset to Hope Springs Behavioral Consultants and the Iowa City Community at large.  Most importantly, Mollie is not only a fine example of a great Psychologist, but also a fantastic human being.
